Jingle Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Xiaohong’ao (E111°57′, N38°27′) of Hefeng village, Duanjiazai town, Jingle County, Shanxi Province (BGMRS(Shanxi)P, 1997). Its name is derived from the “layer A of Jingle reddish clay” used by Teilhard de Chardin and Young (1930). Pei et al. (1963) firstly proposed the “Jingle Fm”. Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Shanxi Province (BGMRS(Shanxi)P) (1989) formally published this formation.
Synonym: Zheng et al. (1999) suggested the Xueguan Fm, Dagou Fm, and Hongya Fm are all synonyms of the Jingle Fm. Gao et al. (2014a) considered that the Daqiang Fm, Ganhegou Fm, “reddish clay layer A”, and Hongya Fm are all synonyms of the Jingle Fm.
Lithology and Thickness
It is characterized by deep-red to brownish-red clays containing scattered or lamellar calcareous nodules. Its lower part and bottom sometimes contain sandy gravels or gravels, which form lenses, interlayers or basal conglomerates. It contains abundant mammalian fossils. Its thickness is in range of 20 to 200 m.
